News and resources

Down Syndrome Australia has provided a submission to the Disability Royal Commission on the Health Issues paper.

Our submission addresses a number of key issues experienced by people with Down syndrome and families when accessing health care.

The submission raises the concerns we have heard about, including:

  • Abuse and neglect in relation to prenatal screening and the misinformation and coercion experienced by families
  • Concerns around access to care during the COVID-19 crisis and the fears families have about people with disabilities not being priorities if there is a scarcity of health resources
  • Ongoing concerns about the adequacy of health care and access to services for people with intellectual disability.

You can read the full submission to the Commission here.
